This is not very welcoming of Upper Hutt, which I assume is not included in the lower city's name.
Google Translate tells me that TE AWA KAIRANGI means 'HUTT'. Maybe Te Awa Kairangi would have been a better name?
Maybe Upper Hutt needs a new name too?
Kura Te Awa Kairangi might work.
Or Hutt Too.
Good to see you back in action Bin.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Jabba the Hutt?
ReplyDeleteHa ha The Curmudgeon! You're a character!
ReplyDeleteThe Hutt river was named after William Hutt (an English parliamentarian who never visited NZ). The first settlement was Britannia but after a while people would say they lived "up the Hutt" hence you have people living on the lower Hutt or upper Hutt.
ReplyDeleteThank you Professor Fount.
ReplyDeleteNow where did Kuntara, north of Wellsford get its name from?
